Low Cost Destinations

Seeing the world on low-cost holidays

When it comes to enjoying low-cost holidays, there are very few boundaries. The so-called millionaire’s playgrounds, including Monaco, Marbella and parts of Dubai, are not likely to be ideal for those looking to keep their spending down, but almost anywhere else in the world would be. Even Scandinavian countries, with their high cost of living, can be enjoyed if you stay in hostels.

Low-cost holidays in Europe

In Europe, most countries are very affordable if you’re sensible. Taking public transport is generally very cheap, especially when compared to car hire. Avoiding the more tourist-centric restaurants and bars is also a good idea. France, Italy, Spain, Greece and Turkey are all examples of countries where you can enjoy a wonderful vacation without over-spending.

Emerging holiday locations such as Bulgaria, Croatia and Romania are also particularly inexpensive, especially if you’re prepared to shop around. An increasing number of people are heading to these countries to make the most of their spending money. Russia, Ukraine and the Baltic states of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia are starting to become popular, too.

Low-cost holidays all over the world

In North and South America, Australia and many parts of Asia you’ll find plenty of holiday destinations which offer wonderful value, from hotels and restaurants to shops and cinemas.

The backpacker trail has left in its wake a number of cheap hostels which are perfect for staying in for a couple of days at a time. The accommodation is likely to be basic, but usually these hostels are very clean and comfortable – as well as being filled with like-minded travellers.
